GPI Economic Summit finally gets to take the stage
Leaders from around the Portland and Vancouver region gathered in February for Greater Portland Inc's Economic Summit, which was originally scheduled last fall, but was postponed due to the ceiling collapsing at the Portland Art Museum.
The Summit focused on higher education on both sides of the Columbia River and included the leaders from Clackamas Community College, Clark Community College, Mt. Hood Community College, Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University, Portland Community College, Portland State University, University of Oregon, and Washington State University.
The common theme was collaboration and partnerships.
Panelists shared information on some of the partnerships taking place with industry and the challenges of filling the skills gap in the workforce.
It touched on a variety of industries, including: automotive, biotech, cyber security, sportswear, and more.
The keynote speaker Tracye McDaniel of TIP Strategies talked about the need for regions to work together and the challenges in today's economy.
She said today's world is moving too fast to think small, and regions carry more weight than an individual city does.
